Men’s Basketball’s Callahan Named NEWMAC Men's Student-Athlete of the Year Nominee

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - The NEWMAC is pleased to announce the seven men's sport institutional nominees for the annual NEWMAC Student-Athlete of the Year Award. The Student-Athlete of the Year Award focuses on the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.

A selection committee made up of Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communicators and Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designees review nominees on an annual basis and select the NEWMAC's honorees.

The conference office will announce the 2024-2025 NEWMAC Student-Athlete of the Year recipient(s) on Thursday, July 10.

The recipient(s) of the 2024-2025 awards will become the NEWMAC nominees for the Division III Commissioners Association Student-Athlete of the Year award.

Brady Anderson – Babson College – Men’s Tennis

Anderson graduated summa cum laude with a 3.90 GPA in Finance and was a Dean’s List student every semester. He was named the Dr. Norm Govoni Scholar-Athlete of the Class of 2025 and a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. Athletically, he helped Babson reach the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time ever and ranks fourth in doubles wins in program history. A Peer on Wellness leader and research assistant in AI/ML, Anderson also co-founded a wellness startup and was heavily engaged in health advocacy and experiential entrepreneurship.

Pat Anutarasoti – Babson College – Men’s Swimming & Diving

magna cum laude graduate in Finance with a 3.67 GPA, Anutarasoti was named to the Dean’s List in all eight semesters and was a three-time Academic All-Conference and CSC Academic All-District selection. He became Babson’s first swimming NEWMAC champion in over 15 years and holds eight school records. As team captain, he helped transform the program’s culture while also mentoring others and leading sustainability initiatives. Internationally-minded, Anutarasoti bridged global perspectives through academic projects and financial literacy workshops in Thailand.

Aidan Callahan – WPI – Men’s Basketball

A general business major with a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 3.8 in his senior year, Callahan completed a senior project that addressed campus social connectivity and finished third in WPI’s Business School showcase. A consistent Dean’s List honoree, he started all 112 games of his career and became the only WPI player to appear in two NCAA Sweet 16s. He is WPI’s 2025 Senior Athlete of the Year, NEWMAC Player of the Year, and a consensus All-American. As a team captain, Callahan led efforts in mentoring youth through recess visits at local schools, basketball clinics, and was selected to the Reese’s NABC Division III All-Star Game.

Billy Carr – Springfield College – Football

Carr graduated with a 3.63 GPA in Health Science and was a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree. He was also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team in 2023 and 2024 and earned membership in the Hampshire Honor Society. On the field, he was a three-time First Team All-NEWMAC selection and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2024. Carr actively contributed to community efforts through organizations like Bikes for Kids, Revitalize CDC, and Be the Match, consistently demonstrating the same passion off the field that made him a leader on it.

Jonathan Chan – Springfield College – Men’s Swimming and Diving

A Health Science major with a 3.62 GPA, Chan earned multiple Dean’s List honors and was a three-time Academic All-Conference and CSC Academic All-District recipient. He also won the NSCA All-American Strength & Conditioning Award in 2025. A two-time All-Conference honoree, he helped break five school records and led award-winning relay teams. Chan volunteered as a Special Olympics instructor and served as a leader in the Asian Culture Club and Student Handbook Committee, advocating for inclusion, accessibility, and cultural awareness.
 
Brandon Grover – Salve Regina University – Baseball

Grover earned both his undergraduate degree in Business Administration (3.978 GPA) and an MBA with a perfect 4.0, graduating summa cum laude. He received the NCAA Elite 90 Award and was honored as Salve Regina’s Distinguished Scholar-Athlete. A four-year captain, Grover served as SAAC Vice President and was named NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2025. He was a leader on the field and in the community, embodying a quiet, steadfast leadership that impacted peers and youth alike through campus programming and mentorship.

Kekoapookela “Kekoa” McArdle – Clark University – Men’s Basketball

Graduating magna cum laude with a 3.77 GPA in Psychology and a minor in Management, McArdle was a multiple-time Academic All-Conference selection and recipient of the Russ Granger Scholar-Athlete Award. He surpassed 1,000 career points and helped Clark win the 2025 NEWMAC Championship. Off the court, he led and participated in numerous community efforts, including clinics for youth, mental health events, and service days with local students. His leadership style centers on authenticity, reliability, and being a role model both on and off campus.

About the NEWMAC

The NEWMAC is an association of 12 selective academic institutions: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Salve Regina University, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, that are committed to providing high quality competitive athletic opportunities for student-athletes within an educational and respectful environment that embodies the NCAA Division III Philosophy. The conference also partners with four Associate Members: Norwich University (Football), Simmons College (Rowing), SUNY Maritime College (Football), and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Football), while sponsoring 20 sports.
