2:23Powerful Equipment at WPI to Spot Cyber ThreatsResearchers at WPI are using a powerful microscope to analyze semiconductors and spot cybersecurity threats to computer hardware. The Phemos-X microscope is an emission and laser-scanning microscope that enables researchers to view transistors, inspect structures on a computer chip, and analyze signals, all with a goal of improving the security of integrated circuits. Shahin Tajik and Fatemeh Ganji are two of the faculty members in the WPI Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering who are conducting leading-edge research in WPI’s cybersecurity facilities. 1:26WPI Concert Band Performs “The Ride”On April 20, 2024, the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Concert Band performed a world premiere composition entitled “The Ride.” The composition, inspired by the story of cycling champion Marshall “Major” Taylor, was created by Thomas O’Toole, Director of Performing Arts for Shrewsbury, Massachusetts Public Schools. O’Toole served as guest conductor for the piece.
3:27Beyond the Visual: Two WPI Student Teams Develop Apps For The Visually ImpairedTwo student research teams have developed smartphone apps for the visually impaired at the EcoTarium and the Worcester Art Museum. Advised by computer science Prof. Rodica Neamtu, the teams completed their work as part of their Major Qualifying Projects, or MQPs. MQPs are one of the pillars of WPI’s renowned project-based learning model.
