Ketnouvong Selected as NEWMAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
Marlboro, MA --- WPI men's soccer's Savio Ketnouvong (Paxton, MA) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending on September 7th.
Joining Ketnouvong in the weekly honors was Baden McLaughlin of Wheaton, who was chosen as the NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Ketnouvong was perfect between the pipes for the Engineers, posting two clean sheets across more than 160 minutes of action. The sophomore goalkeeper opened with a steady two-save performance in a 2-0 win over Anna Maria before shining in a weather-shortened draw against RPI, where he turned aside all four shots on target in just over 71 minutes of play. For the week, Ketnouvong recorded six saves, a 1.000 save percentage, and a flawless 0.00 goals-against average, anchoring a WPI defense that extended its unbeaten start to the season.
This marks the first weekly honor of the year for the Crimson and Gray, and the first NEWMAC weekly recognition for Ketnouvong in his career.
WPI (2-0-1) continues its non-conference slate on Tuesday, September 9th, with a 3:30pm road contest at Dean before heading to Montclair State for a match on Saturday scheduled for 1pm.
