UXSYM 2025 is where AI meets User Experience (UX) research to spark the next wave of product innovation. From data-driven decision-making to creative design breakthroughs, AI is redefining what is possible in UX.Join leading researchers, industry experts, and design innovators for a day of talks, panels, and workshops — all focused on shaping the future of AI-enabled, human-centered product design.

These trainings are divided into a 101- and 201-level and will be offered on a termly basis in Stratton Hall 311. Both trainings will include creating an action plan and discovering new resources for continued learning. Department of Mathematical SciencesNumerical Methods SeminarTuesday, October 28th, 20251:00PM-2:00PMStratton Hall 202Speaker: Maurice Fabien, MITTitle: A cell centered Galerkin method for miscible displacement in heterogeneous porous media Abstract: We present a cell centered Galerkin (CCG) method applied to miscible displacement problems in heterogeneous porous media. The CCG approach combines concepts from finite volume and discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods to arrive at an efficient lowest-order approximation (one unknown per cell). We demonstrate that the CCG method can be defined using classical DG weak formulations, only requires one unknown per cell, and is able to deliver comparable accuracy (to piecewise linear DG) and improved efficiency over traditional higher-order interior penalty DG methods. An interesting feature of the CCG method is that it obeys a maximum principal property. A plethora of computational experiments in 2D and 3D showcase the effectiveness of the CCG method for highly heterogeneous flow and transport problems in porous media.

Department of Mathematical SciencesDiscrete Math SeminarTuesday, October 28th, 20254:00PM-4:50PMOlin Hall 126Speaker: Bill Martin, WPITitle: Triple intersection numbers and Q-ideals of Paley graphs Abstract: In joint work with Andries Brouwer, we used the Hasse-Weil bound for elliptic curves to estimate triple intersection numbers for the Paley graphs. This allows us to build a nice generating set for the ideal of all polynomials that vanish on each column of an eigenprojector of the adjacency matrix of the graph. This involves joint work with Ethan Washock (WPI Mac ’22). As time permits, I will provide some context for this question and a conjecture about the ``dual girth’’ of a Q-polynomial (co-metric) association scheme.
