Wrestling’s Thatcher Claims CSC Men’s At-Large Academic All-District Recognition
College Sports Communicators At-Large Academic All-District - Tanner Thatcher - WPI Wrestling
WORCESTER --- WPI senior Tanner Thatcher (Blairstown, NJ) has been named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, recognizing the standout wrestler for his exceptional achievements in both competition and the classroom as announced in mid-June.
A three-time CSC Academic All-District® selection, Thatcher sports a 3.64 GPA in Environmental Engineering. The senior grappler also earned National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America recognition for the third consecutive season and was named to the 2024-25 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) All-Academic Team and All-NEWA Honorable Mention Team.
Thatcher concluded a standout four-year career as one of WPI Wrestling's most consistent performers as he placed fifth at the 2025 NCAA Division III East Regional Championships, helping the Engineers to a 15th-place team finish and a 12-9 dual meet record — WPI's first winning dual season since 2018-19.
Off the mat, Thatcher played a pivotal role in WPI's 16th-place national finish in the NWCA Team Scholar All-America standings, with the program earning a 3.654 team GPA. The two-time captain was a three-time Dean's List honoree, anchored the program's Earth Day community project and served as the WPI Men's Soccer program's team manager.
With his Academic All-District® selection, Thatcher advances to the CSC Academic All-America® national ballot, with first-, second-, and third-team honorees to be announced on Wednesday, July 9. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes across five divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and the College Division — and is one of the most prestigious academic honors in collegiate athletics.
The NCAA Division III Academic All-America® program is partially supported by the NCAA's national governance structure to assist CSC with operations and awards fulfillment.
