WORCESTER -- Maria Utz (Atlanta, GA) registered her first career hat trick to lift No. 12 Wesleyan to a 3-0 victory over host WPI in a non-conference women's soccer match played Wednesday evening on H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.

The Cardinals, who are also ranked second in the United Soccer Coaches Region I rankings, remained undefeated on the season at 3-0, while the Engineers, who are currently ranked fourth in Region II, dip to 2-2-1.

Utz began her scoring binge in the 16th minute when the ball enter the box following a long throw in and after it was knocked around momentarily, it was collected by the junior who knocked the ball into the goal to put the Cardinals up 1-0 at 15:22.  Utz struck just under 10 minutes later when she was on the receiving end of a through ball from Beatrix Delane (Los Angeles, CA) and broke in and tucked the ball into the bottom right corner.

Utz completed the hat trick midway through the second half when she dribbled across top of box and tucked in her third goal of the game, fifth of the season and ninth of her career at 65:39.

Ayla Verheul (Naarden, The Netherlands) and Maya Mussel (Oxford, CT) rotated in net for a fifth consecutive match for WPI.  Verheul made a save in the first half while Mussel repelled four shots over the final 45 minutes. Molly Brumbach (Montclair, NJ) posted four stops in net as the Cardinals extended their streak of not allowing a goal this season to 270 minutes.  It was Brumbach's second clean sheet of 2025 and 16th of her career.

The Cardinals outshot the hosts 18-4 on the night and held an 8-2 edge in corners kicks.  Abigail Johnson (Middletown, CT) was credited with a pair of shots for the Engineers while Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) and Katie Adiletta (Bolton, MA) each were credited with a shot.

Both teams return to action on Saturday with home matches versus schools from New York state.  WPI welcomes Clarkson to Worcester for a noon kickoff while Wesleyan begins its NESCAC schedule by hosting Hamilton at 11am.
